Spending and contracts
The city's board of control handled these items Thursday:
Approved paying up to $12,000 for a special state audit of vendor transactions with Damon Industries Inc. of Alliance between Jan. 1, 1997 and Dec. 31, 2002. Damon repaid the city $25,000 in May for what were characterized as overbillings. The audit will explore whether the overbillings were intentional and if there are other discrepancies.Accepted a $500,000 grant from the Ohio Department of Development for the Federal Street reconstruction project.Approved a contract with MS Consultants not to exceed $50,439 for services related to construction of a bridge that will service the Ohio Works Industrial Park. Added $14,189 to a contract with Thomas Fok and Associates for consulting work on construction of the new bridge. The increase is for higher employee hourly rates and increased materials costs.Accepted a $236,240 grant of sales tax proceeds from Mahoning County that will pay for new sidewalks around the city.Accepted a $193,056 state Issue II grant for the McGuffey Heights sewer and drainage improvement project.A contract with Genesis Outdoor that will give the company a parcel of city property on Wayne Avenue in return for free community service advertising on a billboard, including for the Youngstown 2010 planning effort.A $160,000 contract with B & amp;C Communications to buy three video dispatch consoles for the 911 center.An $18,000 contract with Lightgov for the collection of delinquent parking fines.Approved a $1,879 technical assistance grant for Joann's Healthcare Nursing Services.Approved a $74,750 contract to lease a front loader from Columbus Equipment Co.
