STRUTHERS Sexton St. man held in assault goes to court

STRUTHERS -- Donald Stoup, 29, of Sexton Street was to appear in Struthers Municipal Court today on charges of assaulting a man with a knife, resisting arrest and threatening police officers Wednesday night.
While being arrested after being accused of trying to stab a 17-year-old Hubbard boy, Stoup kicked out the rear passenger-side window of the cruiser and broke a rear interior door handle, said the police report. He also tried to grab an officer's gun.
The report said Stoup had slurred speech and officers smelled alcohol on his breath.
At the police station, Stoup attempted to throw a chair at one of the officers, spat on officers and threatened to kill officers and the dispatcher, the report said.
After threatening to hang himself in his cell and further taunting officers, Stoup was taken to Mahoning County jail. Stoup reportedly scratched and dented the teenager's car in attempts to stab him after the teen drove by and asked Stoup if he needed help with his car. The episode occurred behind Mavar's Plaza on Youngstown-Poland Road and Lincoln Avenue.
