Valley Extreme (16-under)
Over the weekend of June 28, the Valley Extreme girls 16-under fastpitch team won first place in the Lakeview Classic by beating Top Guns in the championship game 1-0. Top Guns advanced by beating Lady Express from Amherest, N.Y. 7-4, while Valley Extreme advanced by outlasting Ohio Jaguars 5-1. The pitching staff allowed one earned run in six games. The pitching staff includes Amber Sypert, Jackie Carpenter, and Sarah Albani. Each pitcher posted two wins. During the previous two weekends, the team competed in the Akron Firestone and the Compuware tournament in Detroit. The team finished third and second in the consolidation bracket respectively. In the three tournaments, home runs were hit by Sypert (two), Casee Piquet (two), and Kelly Moore (grand slam). Other leading hitters in the tournaments were Lindsay Whetzel, Lauren Whetzel (who missed the Compuware tournament with a knee injury), Michelle Antonelli, and Brittany Bucco. Members of the team are Albani, Piquet, Lindsay Whetzel, Sypert, Lauren Whetzel, Antonelli, Carpenter, Bucco, Jenn Bennett, Lauren McCumber, Kaliegh McQuiston, and Kelly Moore. The coaches are Tom Albani, Pete Bucco, Ray Sypert, and manager Bruce Whetzel. The team has a record of 18-8-2 and will play in the NSA "A" Nationals in Rockhill, S.C. beginning July 20.
