WNBA ROUNDUP Tuesday's games

Shock 66, Sun 50
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- A 21-point run in the second half helped Detroit rout Connecticut. Swin Cash scored 13 points and Cheryl Ford added 11 as Detroit won for just the second time in five games to move a half-game ahead of Charlotte atop the Eastern Conference. Connecticut saw its three-game winning streak end. Detroit improved to 3-0 against the Sun this season. The teams play for the final time on Aug. 5 at Connecticut. When Detroit went on the 21-0 run, it held Connecticut scoreless for over 11 minutes. Deanna Nolan had six points in the surge, while Kedra Holland-Corn added five. In all, the Sun missed 17 straight shots before Shannon Johnson made a layup with 5:24 to play. Nykesha Sales led the Sun with 15 points, but no one else reached double figures. Johnson scored just nine points, six under her season average. Detroit jumped to a 13-2 lead, but the Sun narrowed the gap to 38-34 at the half. The margin was still four, 42-38, with less than 17 minutes to play, but the Sun collapsed.
Comets 60, Fever 56
HOUSTON -- Janeth Arcain scored 18 points, including the last five of the game, leading Houston to a win over Indiana. Houston standout Sheryl Swoopes missed most of the first half with a concussion. She returned for the second half and helped the Comets win for the fifth time in the final game of a season-high six-game homestand. Swoopes scored all of her 15 points in the second half as the Comets won their fourth consecutive game. Leading 57-56, Arcain hit a 3-pointer as time expired on the shot clock to give the Comets a four-point lead with just more than 10 seconds remaining. Tamika Catchings scored a game-high 23 points for the Fever, 2-7 on the road and 9-7 overall. Just 3:28 into the game, Swoopes collided with Nikki McCray in front of the press table. The team issued a news release after the game that said she suffered a concussion. The Fever, who led 7-5 at that point, went on a 15-2 run to take a 22-11 lead with 8:19 left in the half. But in the final 6:05, the Comets outscored the Fever 12-5, highlighted by back-to-back 3-pointers from Ukari Figgs and Kelley Gibson. Catchings led all scorers with 15 points at halftime.
Lynx 77, Monarchs 59
MINNEAPOLIS -- Katie Smith scored 26 points, and Tamika Williams added 15 as Minnesota got back to .500 with a victory over Sacrament. The win assured at least a split of the four-game series between the teams. Both are vying for the last playoff spot in the Western Conference. They meet once more, Aug. 9 in Sacramento. Smith and Williams were a combined 16 for 24 from the field. Sherri Sam added 16 points for the Lynx (8-8). Yolanda Griffith led the Monarchs (7-11) with 17 points and 16 rebounds, but Sacramento shot just 40 percent -- including three of 14 from behind the arc. After taking a 35-30 lead at the break, Minnesota pulled away in the second half, getting 15 points from Smith to take a 72-55 lead with two minutes remaining. The Monarchs never got closer than nine points thereafter.
