PIRATES Lofton's throw cuts down Brewers' chances in the 10th

Jack Wilson hit a two-run homer to lead the Pirates.
MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Kenny Lofton cut down Milwaukee's second rally as it was unfolding.
His throw from center field in the 10th inning nailed Geoff Jenkins at third base to end the game and preserve the Pittsburgh Pirates' 8-7 win over the Brewers on Tuesday night.
"Kenny Lofton was perfect," Brewers manager Ned Yost said. "It takes a perfect throw to get Jenkins, and he made it."
All-Star closer Mike Williams blew the save, but picked up the victory in relief backed by Jack Wilson's two-run homer in the top of the 10th off Mike DeJean (2-7).
Rally killer
In the bottom of the inning, Milwaukee put runners on first and second with two outs, and John Vander Wal singled off Salomon Torres, scoring Scott Podsednik.
But Lofton, who looked like he might reach the sinking liner, short-hopped it and threw on the run to get Jenkins at third.
The 36-year-old Lofton, a six-time All-Star, also hit a solo homer to lead off the seventh. He was added to the NL Internet All-Star ballot after the Cubs' Corey Patterson was injured.
"You can't call that play luck," Vander Wal said. "He's been an All-Star out there."
The only Pirates player currently on the All-Star team is Williams (1-3), but he blew his fifth save in 29 chances and increased his ERA to 6.62.
"I blew the lead, and they bounced right back," Williams said.
Joe Beimel got one out in the bottom of the 10th before giving up a single to Podsednik and a walk to Jenkins. Torres finished for his second save.
Pirates starter Josh Fogg allowed three runs on five hits in six innings, retiring 11 straight during one stretch.
Pittsburgh opened the scoring in the second, when Randall Simon reached on Richie Sexson's fielding error and later scored on Wilson's sacrifice fly.
Ramirez added a two-run double in the third, Jason Kendall, who had three hits, had an RBI single in the fifth, and a solo homer by Stairs in the sixth made it 5-0.
Sexson's three-run homer in the sixth, his 24th, started Milwaukee's comeback.
Lofton and Eddie Perez traded solo homers in the seventh to make it 6-4.
Milwaukee starter Matt Kinney allowed five runs -- four earned -- on eight hits in six innings. He walked two and struck out five.
