Flooding closes court
EAST PALESTINE -- The Columbiana County Municipal Court in East Palestine is closed today because of flooding in the basement.
County municipal court Judge Mark Frost closed the court Wednesday. He said the basement flooded Wednesday with storm water and raw sewage.
Anyone scheduled to appear at the court today should call the court at (330) 426-3774 to reschedule, Judge Frost said.
Police officer resigns
NORTH LIMA -- Beaver Township trustees have accepted the resignation of part-time police officer Chris Swope, effective June 12.
Swope resigned to accept a full-time position with another police department.
At their regular monthly meeting, trustees also agreed to hire one part-time police officer and three reserve officers, pending the completion of their background checks. They are, respectively: Gordon A. Hallof, 34, of Canfield; Jason E. Swanson, 25, of Poland; Robert J. Whited, 31, of Youngstown; and Themistocles D. Tsarnas, 28, of Boardman. Salaries for each police officer will be set.
Bridge replacement set
LISBON -- Workers are expected Monday to begin replacing a bridge on state Route 164 in Wayne Township.
The bridge is south of Lisbon and just south of state Route 164's intersection with state Route 518.
One-lane traffic will be maintained during the project, which is to be finished by Oct. 15.
Cost of the work, being done by BOG Construction Inc., Berlin Center, is $330,569.
Police seek rock-throwers
HILLSVILLE, Pa. -- State police are searching for the people who threw large rocks from the overpass of U.S. Route 224 onto moving vehicles.
Police said four cars were hit around 11 p.m. Wednesday near the overpass at Churchill Road in Mahoning Township. Police said suspects were seen by residents running into nearby woods.
State police, Pulaski police and Mahoning Township volunteer firefighters helped search for the suspects, but did not find anyone.
5 charged in burglary
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Five juveniles face burglary charges after they were found leaving the Union Township Athletic Association building on Wilson Drive this morning.
State police said the door to the building was pried open and many items were removed.
The five were arrested at 5:50 a.m. Petitions are expected to be filed in Lawrence County Juvenile Court.
Discussing development
NORTH LIMA -- Beaver Township trustees will meet in special session at 6:30 p.m. July 22 at the township administration office in South Range Plaza to consider allowing the Lakes of Beaver residential development to modify its general development plans.
The proposed changes are available for public inspection at the township zoning office from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Concert date changed
NORTH LIMA -- The Great Pretenders concert, which was scheduled for Wednesday night, has been moved to 7 p.m. Aug. 27, at Woodworth Park in Beaver Township. The concert, part of the park's summer concert series, was postponed because of bad weather. Concert admission is free.

Nurse aide training
LORDSTOWN -- Trumbull Career & amp; Technical Center's Adult Education Department is offering state-approved nurse aide training. Classes are three days a week for four weeks.
Upon completion, students are certified to take the state licensure examination.
The need for trained care providers continues to rise as the population ages and jobs for graduates are available at a number of local facilities.
