Discussion groupsto focus on Morrison
YOUNGSTOWN -- Toni Morrison, a noted author who was born in Lorain, will be the subject of book discussion groups at the Public Library of Youngstown & amp; Mahoning County in August in anticipation of her appearance on Sept. 18 at 7:30 p.m. at Powers Auditorium as part of the YSU Skeggs Lecture Series.
Morrison earned a Pulitzer Prize for her novel "Beloved," and she also was awarded a Nobel Prize in 1993.
The schedule:
UOn Aug. 12 at 7 p.m. at the Boardman branch, Dr. Stephanie Tingley of YSU will moderate a discussion on Morrison's "Song of Solomon."
UOn Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. at the main library, Tingley will moderate a discussion of "Beloved."
UOn Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. at the Austintown branch, Sarah Brown-Clark will serve as moderator and compare and contrast "Song of Solomon," "Sula" and "Beloved."
Attendance at the discussions is limited, and a spot must be reserved by contacting the library's development department at (330)744-8636, ext. 118. Those who attend should read the books in advance.
