GIRARD Authorities seek information on hit-skip that killed woman
GIRARD -- A 37-year-old Girard woman was trying to get to Warren to visit friends when she was apparently struck Sunday along U.S. Route 422.
Michelle R. Touart of Dearborn Street was hit about 12:30 a.m. She was pronounced dead a short time later at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Police Capt. Frank Bigowsky said Touart, the mother of two, owned a car, but didn't have access to it Sunday.
"She could have been hitchhiking but I don't know for sure," he said. "We're confident she was hit by a motor vehicle."
The Mahoning County Coroner's Office is involved in the investigation because that's where Touart was pronounced dead.
The coroner has not ruled on the cause of death.
Police found Touart lying in the middle of the northbound lanes of 422, south of Trumbull Avenue. Her purse and shoes were found nearby.
Anyone who saw her is asked to contact city police at (330) 545-3526.
