AKRON -- Chad Durbin and Oscar Alvarez no-hit Bowie and walked none, with only a hit batter and a fielding error marring an otherwise perfect game, and the Akron Aeros beat the Baysox 4-0 Monday night in the Eastern League.
Durbin, a 25-year-old right-hander who posted a major league record of 11-22 and an earned run average of 6.01 from 1999-to-2002 with the Kansas City Royals, is recovering from surgery on his right elbow last September. The Indians signed him as a free agent in February.
Durbin (2-0) in just his third Akron start and on a 95-pitch limit struck out eight in seven innings. He did not allow a runner until he hit Ivanon Coffie with a pitch with two outs in the seventh.
Oscar Alvarez, a lefty reliever, got through the final two innings with ease. B.J. Littleton reached base in the ninth on shortstop Hector Luna's error.
Eric Crozier hit his 13th homer and went 3-for-3 to lead Akron's offense.
Buffalo 4, Charlotte 0
FORT MILL, S.C. -- Buffalo starter Jake Westbrook pitched six innings without a hit as the Bisons beat Charlotte 4-0 in the International League.
Westbrook (1-0) struck out four in six innings before Matt White came in to pitch for Buffalo (50-37), which scored four runs off eight hits. Westbrook, who was sent down from the Cleveland Indians last week, was removed from the game because of a predetermined pitch count.
