HIGHLIGHTS | Prologue stage

Stage: 4.03 miles, from the Eiffel Tower, through the streets of Paris to the foot of the Champ de Mars, a park in the Tower's shadow. Riders raced individually against the clock.
Winner: Bradley McGee of Australia, in 7 minutes, 26.16 seconds.
How others fared: Four-time champion Lance Armstrong was seventh, 7 seconds off McGee's pace. David Millar of Britain was runner-up, with Spain's Haimar Zubeldia third.
Quote of the day: "I didn't feel great. I started slow. It wasn't very comfortable, and I was struggling with the pounding of the cobblestones. But the race will change." -- Lance Armstrong.
Next stage: 104 miles from Paris east to the town of Meaux. The race starts from the same spot, an inn called Le Reveil Matin, where the first Tour began in 1903.
