SANDLOTS Top-seeded Astro Falcons, Line Drive open with wins



Becdir and Astro Falcons were winners in Class Little b.
STRUTHERS -- Line Drive Academy and Astro Falcons, the top two seeds in the Class B playoffs, gained victories Wednesday in the first game of the best-of-three Class B playoffs.
Line Drive defeated Livi Steel 4-1, while Astro bested Rondinelli Tuxedo, 8-3.
For Line Drive, Vasili Pahoulis pitched a three-hitter and had nine strikeouts while Justin Byler had two doubles and a pair of RBIs.
Byler hit a RBI double in the first inning as Line Drive scored three times. His second double scored an unearned run in the third.
Pahoulis had allowed just a first-inning double to Doug Brown into the seventh inning when Phil Butch led off with a double and was singled home by Sean Lucas for Livi Steel's run.
In the other game, John Hay threw a complete game allowing three runs with eight strikeouts.
The Falcons got two hits each from Frank Turocy, Dan Leonard, Jim Eimiller and Mike Pulakos in taking a 1-0 lead in the series.
Jason Metzka went the distance in a losing effort for Rondinelli, walking five and striking out four. Gabe McKee, Mike DeNiro and Josh Conkey had two hits each for Rondinelli.
Astro scored four runs in the sixth inning to put the game away. Leonard, Eimiller and Christian each had an RBI in the frame. Eimiller had three RBIs for the game.
Little b playoffs
STRUTHERS -- Becdir and Astro Falcons were opening night winners in the Class Little b Playoffs at Bob Cene Park.
Becdir scored a run in the bottom of the fifth inning on an error for a 3-2 win over Line Drive Academy, while a four-run sixth inning lifted the Falcons over Wolf Construction 10-6.
Becdir got a complete game six-hit performance from Alex Oles. He walked one and struck out four.
Becdir won despite getting just four hits off losing pitcher Kevin Sikora, who allowed just one earned run while striking out five and walking two.
Adam Solich had a double and a single for Line Drive.
In the Astro game, Brandon Skoff had three hits for Wolf Construction.
Jared Bartholomew and Jessee D'Amico had three hits each for Astro.
Joe Irwin pitched a complete game for the win, allowing only three earned runs while walking four and striking out three. Five straight hits in the bottom of the sixth plated four runs for the win for Astro.
