Robbery at Re-Nu Roofingleads police to arrest 3
AUSTINTOWN -- Police arrested three Youngstown people as the result of an armed robbery at Re-Nu Roofing on South Meridian Road.
James E. Ward, 20, of West Judson Avenue and Keith S. Slade, 19, of East Lucius Avenue face charges of aggravated robbery and kidnapping.
Tia Jones, 19, of Francisca Avenue is charged with complicity to aggravated robbery.
Police said Ward and Slade were caught behind the Sandbar Restaurant on South Four Mile Run Road at 3:20 p.m. Friday after police were called about two suspicious people being dropped off there.
Police said the men ran when confronted, but were eventually caught.
Officers said the men had a handgun and a wallet they later learned was taken in the robbery at Re-Nu Roofing.
A second handgun was found behind the Sandbar.
Authorities said Jones was arrested on Mahoning Avenue after witnesses identified her vehicle as the one who dropped off the other two suspects at the restaurant.
Road closing for work
YOUNGSTOWN -- Columbiana Road, between Pine Lake Road and state Route 170 in Springfield Township, will be closed July 8 for a culvert replacement.
The work is expected to be finished in one day.
Joining traffic program
BROOKFIELD -- Township police will participate in the state's Selected Traffic Enforcement Program over the July Fourth weekend by patrolling for speeders and those driving under the influence. The program runs through July 6.
Heritage Days Festival
BRISTOL -- The Bristol Bicentennial Committee will host a Heritage Days Festival on Sept. 13 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the park in the center of town.
