NEW YORK-PENN LEAGUE Scrappers defeat Doubledays again



Mahoning Valley beat the Doubledays for the third straight time, 8-7.

AUBURN, N.Y. -- Three straight wins over the Auburn Doubledays have pulled the Mahoning Valley Scrappers to within two games of first place in the Pinckney Division of the New York-Penn League.
The Scrappers rallied to beat the host Doubledays 8-7 Tuesday in a matchup of the league's top teams.
Trailing 7-5, the Scrappers loaded the bases with no outs in the ninth inning.
After picking up one run on a wild pitch, the next two Scrappers struck out. Javier Herrera then attempted a bunt and third baseman Bubbie Buzachero threw the ball away allowing the final two runs to score.
Mahoning Valley pitcher Mark Harris gave up two runs in 12/3 innings of relief to pick up the win.
Closer Reid Casey earned his third save by pitching a scoreless ninth inning and Mike Conroy hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning for the Scrappers (9-6).
Ryan Goleski was 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
For Auburn (11-4), Mike Galloway went 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
The Doubledays are 3-4 against the Scrappers and 8-0 against the rest of the league.
The two teams will play again tonight.
