NOTEBOOK From Cafaro Field

On the schedule: In recent years, the New York-Penn League went to an unbalanced schedule, limiting the amount of road trips that teams take. But that means that Mahoning Valley plays more games against its Pinckney Division opponents Auburn, Batavia and Jamestown. "In a perfect world, we'd play a balanced schedule across the league," Scrappers general manager Andy Milovich said. "But the league is so spread out geographically that it's tough to pull off." And sometimes the schedule still doesn't make sense. For example, after the Scrappers play two games at Auburn beginning tonight, they return home for two games against Jamestown before leaving again -- for Vermont.
League leader: Entering Monday's game, Scrappers first baseman/designated hitter Ryan Mulhern was tied for the New York-Penn League lead in doubles with seven. He added to that total in the fourth inning, doubling to left.
Buckeyes: Scrappers pitcher Matt Davis and Doubledays outfielder Christian Snavely both were drafted out of Ohio State. The two faced each other in Sunday's game, with Davis getting his former teammate to ground out in the fifth inning.Familiar face: Former Mahoning Valley sportswriter and radio personality Erik Boland made an appearance at Cafaro Field, visiting with friends and old acquaintances. Boland moved to New York City, where he attended New York University. He is now a sportswriter for Newsday.
Upcoming schedule: The Scrappers will travel to Auburn for a two-game series before returning home for games Thursday and Friday against the Jamestown Jammers. There will be a fireworks display following both games at Cafaro Field. Adam Brandenburg (0-0, 2.35) is scheduled to start on the mound for the Scrappers tonight in Auburn.
