CAMPBELL -- Police are seeking information about who sent a package containing two dolls with straight pins stuck in their eyes to a Whipple Avenue woman.
The woman believes the package she received Saturday was sent by the same person who sent her a letter and birthday card a few weeks ago. She told police she has also received threatening telephone calls, including one on her birthday, and believes the same person is responsible.
Police reports state that the woman has received two calls in the past two months from a man who said that he wants to go out with her and threatened to kill her dogs if she declined. The woman also told police that the caller made derogatory remarks about her husband.
Car stolen at church
CAMPBELL -- Police are searching for an automobile left in a church parking lot after a wedding. Police reports state the owner left his 2000 Cadillac Escalade in the lot of St. John's Church, 159 Reed Ave., about 2 p.m. Saturday to ride in a limousine. When he returned Sunday around 6:45 p.m., the report states, the vehicle was gone; about 20 CDs were also in the vehicle.
Accident at car auction
HUBBARD -- Three people were taken to an area hospital after an accident at a car auction site. Emiliano Ramos, 66, of Burghill, was pulling into the Pa.-Ohio Auto Auction on Youngstown-Hubbard Road at 2:40 p.m. Monday when he drove into a group of people, hit a truck, then hit the wall of the building, police said.
The vehicle was impounded. Detective Michael Begeot said police are investigating whether its gas pedal stuck.
Ramos, along with Muawiyah K. Naser, 46, of Youngstown, and Donald T. Richards, 70, of Hubbard, who were in the crowd struck by the car, were taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown. No condition reports or damage estimate were available. No charges have been filed.
Woman wins lottery
CLEVELAND -- Marilyn Gozik of Masury won the top prize of $100,000 in the Thursday drawing of the Buckeye 5 lottery game. The Ohio Lottery Commission said Gozik let the computer at Mr. D's Food Fair on Warren-Sharon Road in Brookfield pick what turned out to be the winning numbers. She filed for her prize at the Austintown regional lottery office.
Quarter caper
CAMPBELL -- Burglars who stole a cup of quarters went to a lot of trouble breaking into Splash & amp; Shine Auto Bath, 960 Struthers-Coitsville Road, over the weekend.
Thieves removed an air vent from the roof and broke through the plaster ceiling to enter. All that appeared to be missing, the police report says, is a plastic cup containing an undetermined number of quarters.
Police recovered a screwdriver and a wooden handle from a hammer on the roof. The break-in was discovered Sunday afternoon.
Austintown OKs loan
AUSTINTOWN -- Township trustees voted Monday to take out a one-year, $1.1 million loan from Farmers National Bank at an annual interest rate of 2.85 percent. Township Clerk Michael Kurish said the money would be used to pay off two $300,000 loans and a $500,000 loan the township had taken out previously. Payment on the three loans is due July 1.
The township would repay some of the $1.1 million loan using tax money it will receive this fall.
Pizza man is robbed
YOUNGSTOWN -- A Little Jimmy's Pizza deliveryman told police he was robbed Monday afternoon when he went to deliver a pizza to an apartment on McGuffey Road. The deliveryman said two young men approached with guns and ordered him to lie on the ground. The robbers took the pizza, his wallet with cash inside and a cell phone, reports show.
Liquor violations alleged
YOUNGSTOWN -- State liquor agents have cited two markets in the city for recent alleged violations. Erie Street Market, 1616 Erie St., was cited Thursday on charges of selling beer while under license suspension and having a person under the age of 18 selling or handling beer. Westside Sparkle Market, 1912 Mahoning Ave., was cited Sunday on allegations of having someone under 18 selling or handling intoxicating liquor, illegal Sunday sale of intoxicating liquor and failing to post its liquor license.
