KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Jim Edmonds hit two more homers and had four hits as the St. Louis Cardinals beat Kansas City 13-9 Friday night, snapping the Royals' five-game winning streak.
Edmonds went 4-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs. He has five homers in the last four games for the Cardinals, who took over sole possession of first place in the NL Central.
Edgar Renteria homered, stole three bases and drove in four runs, and Scott Rolen homered for the second straight game.
Cardinals rookie Bo Hart, hitless on Friday, went 4-for-6 and scored four runs. It was his seventh multihit game in just nine major league outings, raising his average to .489.
St. Louis' Albert Pujols, the majors' leading hitter, went 0-for-5 with a walk. His average dropped six points to .386.
Neither starter made it out of the fourth inning.
Kansas City's Jeremy Affeldt (4-4) came out after giving up a single and a walk to start St. Louis' three-run fourth. He gave up six runs on eight hits.
