Traffic stop leads to assault charge

WARREN -- A city man is in the Trumbull County jail, charged with felonious assault on a police officer and resisting arrest as the result of a Saturday afternoon traffic stop.
Lyndal Kimble, 29, of 1597 Kenilworth Ave. S.E., was stopped in his driveway after he failed to signal a right turn at Colonial Street Southeast and Niles Road at 1 p.m., said Sgt. Joe O'Grady.
Kimble may also face drug charges because he placed suspected cocaine in his mouth after Patrolmen Greg Hoso and Frank Tempesta stopped him, the sergeant said.
Hoso was treated at a local hospital for neck and arm injuries in a struggle to make the arrest and recover the suspected drug, O'Grady said.
Before being jailed, Kimble also was taken to the hospital for observation to make sure he hadn't swallowed cocaine, O'Grady said.
A home video shown recorded by a bystander shows Kimble struggling with police during the arrest, O'Grady said.
The sergeant said he thought the officers acted appropriately. "When somebody's under arrest and they start resisting, you use what force is necessary to make the arrest," he added.
