MERCER COUNTY 2 receive prison for robberies



Records say a woman took a child to a crack house and left her alone there.

MERCER, Pa. -- Two men who committed robberies in Greenville, one at a gas station and another at a social club, received prison terms.
Judge Francis Fornelli of Mercer County Common Pleas Court sentenced Charles Axe, 50, of Penn Avenue, Greenville, on Thursday to seven to 15 years for robbing the Red Apple Kwik Fill Gas Station, 352 Main St. on Dec. 21.
According to court records, he carried a concealed revolver and threatened to kill a woman in the store while emptying the cash register of $195. He was given 25 days' credit for time served. He pleaded guilty in May to felony robbery.
The judge sentenced Donald Slater, 21, of Shenango Street, Greenville, to 61/2 to 15 years in prison for robbing several patrons inside the Elks Club, 28 S. Mercer St., as well as one man in the parking lot, all at gunpoint Dec. 16. He got away with $550 from the club's cash register and $25 from the man in the parking lot.
Slater, who pleaded guilty in May to felony robbery, was also ordered to make restitution. He was given credit for 192 days already served.
Others sentenced
Several others were also sentenced Thursday.
Kevin Bundy, 38, address given as State Correctional Facility, Butler Pike Road, Mercer, was sentenced to three months to two years for possessing firearms, a misdemeanor because he was on probation. The term was then suspended, and he was released on parole. Last August, Bundy was found in possession of a loaded model rifle with a folding bayonet and a double-edged switchblade.
Aletha Laux, 26, of Ohio Street, Sharon, was sentenced to 23 months to seven years in prison for the corruption of minors and receiving stolen property, both misdemeanors. According to court records, on Jan. 11, she had her 10-year-old daughter with her while she shoplifted at Family Dollar, 100 S. Water Ave., Sharon, then took the child to a known crack house and left her alone there.
John Wilcox, 30, of Columbia Street, Sharon, was sentenced to six months to one year in jail and ordered to make restitution for assaulting a man in the course of a theft Oct. 27. According to court records, Wilcox stole a pump rifle, tools and money from a Valley Road, Jefferson Township, address. During the theft, he repeatedly punched the victim, breaking the man's nose. He pleaded guilty in May to simple assault, a misdemeanor.
Earlier this week Judge Thomas Dobson sentenced Michael King, 39, of Prospect Street, Sharon, to 15 to 30 months in jail for robbery and criminal trespassing, both felonies.
On Jan. 1, King entered a residence on Oakland Avenue, Sharon, by breaking the glass of the front door. Once inside, he threatened a female victim grabbed her neck with both hands and took her purse.
