NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The Lawrence County Amateur Radio Operators group is hosting a 24-hour field day beginning at noon Saturday.
Ham radio operators will be set up at Wendy's, 2590 W. State St., and the neighboring Sears Auto Center.
The amateur-radio operators will make contacts around the world.
Visitors will be able to speak on the radio and look at radio operating equipment.
There will also be prizes.
Lawn ornaments stolen
SALEM -- Two city residents reported thefts of lawn ornaments, police said. A woman on the 1400 block of Orchard Street said someone took a $50 concrete statue of an angel from her front yard. A man on Deming Street said someone stole a $200 carving of a man's head from his back yard.
The crimes were reported Thursday.
Theft from car reported
SALEM -- Someone took items from a car parked on the 500 block of South Broadway Avenue, police said. Taken was a briefcase containing books, a calculator and cigarettes. The theft occurred between 6 and 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Free investors forum
MARS, Pa. -- A free investors forum hosted by NASD, the leading self-regulatory organization for the securities industry, and U.S. Rep. Melissa Hart of Bradford Woods, R-4th, is set for Monday.
Robert Glauber, chairman and CEO of NASD, and Mary Schapiro, president of Regulatory Policy and Oversight and vice chairman of NASD, will talk about research before buying securities.

Man treated after beingshot during assault
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 20-year-old Evergreen Avenue man was treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center after having been shot twice in the right thigh at 9:10 p.m. Thursday.
Ronald Raine, who resides in the 400 block of West Evergreen Avenue, told police he intervened at Evergreen and Rosedale avenues, where about 10 boys, ages 13 or 14, were trying to assault a 7-year-old girl, who resides nearby.
The boys punched him in his head, then he heard about three gunshots and ran home, where he discovered he'd been shot, he told police.
Craig Beach house fire
CRAIG BEACH -- A fire caused heavy damage to a house on Jersey Street, firefighters said.
The cause is under investigation.
The blaze started at 1:25 p.m. Thursday on the upper floor of the two-story, wooden-frame home at 17777 Jersey St. and took about 90 minutes to extinguish, firefighters said.
Paul Phillips, Ruth Rovder and three of their children inside the home escaped without injury.
Narcotics, gun charges
CLEVELAND -- A Youngstown man has been charged with federal narcotics and firearms violations, the U.S. attorney said.
Jason Morar, 24, of Scheetz Street, is charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute more than 1.1 pounds of cocaine and carrying and using a firearm during drug trafficking.
New board members
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Touched by Nathan Foundation Board of Trustees appointed several new members.
They include: Dr. Nicholas Garritano of Canfield, and Gretchen Backus and Melanie Yannitto, both of Boardman.
The Touched by Nathan Foundation is a nonprofit organization, founded in 1999, that provides education, support, services and medical equipment to parents with babies born with fragile conditions.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Second Harvest Foodbank has several new member agencies:
Columbiana County: Southern Community Center, Salineville; First Baptist Church, Wellsville; Point Man Ministries Outreach, Washingtonville; Grace Lutheran Church, East Palestine; First United Methodist Church, Salem.
Trumbull County: Vienna Ecumenical Food Pantry, Vienna; Grace AME Church, Our Way Home Ministries, North Mar Church and Warren SDA Church, all in Warren.
