Mayor says he plans to run for second term in office
FARRELL, Pa. -- Mayor William A. Morocco, 56, said he plans to run for re-election to a second term in office.
Morocco, a Democrat, defeated a primary candidate four years ago and had no Republican opposition in his bid for a first term in the part-time position.
He had served as a member of Farrell City Council for nearly 20 years.
"We, as a community, are making progress," Morocco said Monday.
The city is working to bring new business and other interests into Farrell, he said, referring to city council's decision Monday night to lower the rate on a revolving loan program for new and expanding businesses.
"We always have the door open and the lights on," he said, adding that the anticipated appointment of a city community development director within the next couple of months should not only enhance those efforts but also get the city's housing rehabilitation program restarted.
Morocco said Farrell officials are also working harder to communicate and work with city residents.
His announcement, made at the end of a city council meeting, drew immediate pledges of support from council members Robert Burich, Lou Falconi, Helen Marenchin and Mark Petrillo, also Democrats.
