WARREN IUE-CWA alludes to RDR buyer

Plant owners did not return calls for comment.
WARREN -- The lead organizer for a unionization drive at RDR LLC says he has found a buyer for the electronic components plant, should the owners decide to close it down.
The National Labor Relations Board still must decide on 15 challenged ballots before determining the results of a vote to unionize 81 workers at the plant.
But since the vote was held, Nick Nichols, lead organizer of International Union of Electrical Workers-Communication Workers of America, received a letter from the company's lawyer announcing the plant is to close.
The facility is at 2809 Mahoning Ave. N.W.
The letter, dated Jan. 8, gives the plant 30 more days.
Bought last year
The company was bought out of bankruptcy last year by Ron Rosen, of Walled Lake, Mich., who owns a company called Romar, in a similar business.
Rosen had always intended to close the Warren plant and consolidate its operations with Romar, the letter from Atty. Frank Mamat said. This seems to contradict leaflets circulated by the company before the election, which suggested the company was staying in Warren for good.
David Craciun, an IUE-CWA staff representative, said people were misled.
Neither Mamat nor Rosen returned telephone calls seeking comment.
What is suspected
Union officials say they suspect the company decided to close the Warren plant as a result of the workers' vote to unionize. The workers, who earn between $6.50 and $7.50 an hour, voted 36 to 29 in favor of unionization, not including the contested ballots.
Closing the plant as a result of the union vote would be a violation of labor laws, and the IUE-CWA would fight it with the NLRB, Nichols said.
He would not specify who the potential buyer for the plant is, beyond that he is a local, reputable businessman.
