NORTH CANTON -- J.R. Ogletree's basket with five seconds remaining gave Walsh University a 71-70 victory over Malone Thursday, the Cavaliers' eighth straight victory over their cross-town rival.
The Pioneers' (7-12, 3-4 American Mideast Conference South) last chance to win the game was lost when the ball went out of bounds.
There were eight lead changes and five ties in the second half. Neither team led by more than four points. Malone led 70-69 with 1:16 remaining on a basket by Jason Mishler. Walsh's Jerome Sandifer missed the front end of a one-and-one with 14 seconds remaining, but the Cavaliers got the ball back when Mishler was called for traveling.
Ogletree, who finished with 12 points, took the inbounds pass, drove the lane and sank a running jump shot.
Jason Hamilton of Walsh (8-8, 2-4) led all scorers with 19 points -- he had 15 in the second half -- and is one point short of 1,000 for his career. Rhys Tucker added 14 points.
Tim Trbovbich led Malone with 18 points off the bench.
Butler 81, Wright State 70
DAYTON -- Butler's Duane Lightfoot scored 17 of his career-high 23 points in the second half.
Butler (14-1, 4-0 Horizon League) used an 11-4 spurt midway through the second half to pull ahead by 10, then refused to let Wright State (7-8, 1-4) get closer than eight points the rest of the way.
Seth Doliboa scored 25 points and Vernard Hollins and Braden Bushman added 17 apiece for Wright State.
Butler's Darnell Archey scored eight points and made both of his free throws, extending his Division I record to 84 consecutive free throws made.
Illinois-Chicago 69,Cleveland State 63
CHICAGO -- Cedrick Banks scored 21 points and Martell Bailey added 16 points and eight assists to lead Illinois-Chicago.
The Flames (9-4, 3-1 Horizon) led by as many as 14 in the second half, but Cleveland State tied it at 57 with 4:25 left.
Illinois-Chicago scored the game's next six points -- all by Bailey and Banks -- and the Vikings (7-10, 2-3) didn't get any closer.
Jonathan Burge led Cleveland State with 25 points on 10-of-17 shooting. The Vikings shot just 36 percent for the game and turned the ball over 24 times.
Detroit 72, Loyola of Chicago 54
DETROIT -- Willie Green had 27 points and Terrell Riggs added 14 to ignite the Detroit attack.
Detroit (7-7, 2-3 Horizon League) turned a first-half tie at 29 into a comfortable lead with a 17-5 run, spanning the end of the first half and the beginning of the second.
After taking the lead, Detroit did not trail again, with the Ramblers (7-11, 3-3) never getting closer than nine points in the second half.
Loyola guard David Bailey, the Horizon League's preseason player of the year, was held to just three points on 1-of-14 shooting, significantly below his 17.3 points-per-game average.
No. 2 Arizona 81,Southern California 72
LOS ANGELES -- Freshman Hassan Adams scored 21 points, and Arizona played superb defense down the stretch.
Channing Frye scored 14 points, Luke Walton and Salim Stoudamire had 13 each for the Wildcats (12-1, 5-0 Pac-10).
Desmon Farmer led the Trojans (6-6, 2-2) with 23 points -- all but three in the first half -- and seven rebounds. Errick Craven added 21 points and Rory O'Neil scored 10.
No. 15 Louisville 87,East Carolina 70
GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Marvin Stone had 23 points and nine rebounds, and Reece Gaines added 22 points for Louisville.
The Cardinals (11-1, 3-0 Conference USA) won their 10th straight and are off to their best start since the 1996-97 season.
Derrick Wiley had 21 points to lead East Carolina (10-4, 1-2).
