NHL Rookie goalie leads Pens

BOSTON (AP) -- Sebastien Caron turned aside all of his pregame jitters -- and almost every opposing shot -- in his first start for the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Caron made 31 saves to lead the Penguins to a 2-1 victory over the Boston Bruins Monday night at the arena where he was a drafted in the third round in 1999.
"I like this building," Caron said. "I got drafted here, and now I got my first win here."
It was Caron's first NHL start since being called up to replace the injured Johan Hedberg last week.
"I've seen it a lot in my career where a young kid comes up and is successful in his first NHL game," Penguins forward Alexei Kovalev said.
"He knew we were in trouble, though, and stepped up with big saves that gave us an opportunity to win the game."
Game winner
Jan Hrdina scored the game-winning goal with 5 minutes, 58 seconds remaining, when Kovalev fed him a pass coming out of the corner that he wristed past goalie Steve Shields.
The victory ended a four-game losing streak against the Bruins, and was only the third for Pittsburgh in the last 12 in Boston's FleetCenter.
"This was a huge win for us," Hrdina said.
"It's weird. Usually we beat them at home, but we lost to them at home and we always lose here, but won tonight."
Mario Lemieux returned to the Penguins' lineup after missing three games with a strained groin. He played six shifts in the first period, but did not return after that. Pittsburgh lost all three games in his absence.
"We've been really struggling," Penguins defenseman Ian Moran said. "The last three games we kind of shot ourselves in the foot, but we responded tonight."
Shields made 18 saves for Boston, who has lost six of seven and is 3-12-1 in its last 16.
