2003 report cards

2003 report cards
Area schools
The Ohio Department of Education released the 2003 local report cards Tuesday for the state's 608 public school districts. The cards are designed to show parents and the community how well schools are doing -- where they are succeeding and where there is room for improvement. The Vindicator reported general results Tuesday; this chart provides more detailed information for Mahoning Valley districts.
Each district is measured against 22 minimum performance standards. There were 27 standards last year, but 12th-grade test results were dropped as a standard for the 2003 report cards.
Twenty of the standards are based on results of 2001-2002 state-mandated proficiency tests taken by fourth-, sixth-, ninth- and 10th-grade pupils. To be considered proficient in a standard, 75 percent of a district's fourth-, sixth- or ninth-graders and 85 percent of 10th-graders must pass the test in the area. The criteria for the attendance standard is a 93 percent rate; the criteria for the graduation standard is a 93 percent rate. The chart lists each district's name, followed by this year's rating and last year's rating, this year's performance on each standard and total standards met. A district in bold with an arrow denotes a change in rating from last year. A black circle indicates that the district met the particular standard.
