TORAH Restoration project
Temple El Emeth, 3970 Logan Way, Liberty, is sponsoring a series of events as part of its Torah restoration project. Events begin this weekend with three programs with Rabbi Eric Ray, above, of Great Neck, N.Y. He is one of three sofer gadol, or Torah master scribes, in the world. All the events are open to the public.
7:30 tonight: The Torah Detective: How to tell Where, When, and by Whom a specific Torah was Written.
9:15 a.m. Saturday: How a Torah is Written: Materials and Rules.
10:30 a.m. Sunday: Sofer (scribe) demonstration.
People also may visit the temple to watch as Rabbi Joseph P. Schonberger of Temple El Emeth and members of the congregation work on the Torah.
The time and dates are: noon to 1 p.m. Monday, 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, and 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 28.
A rededication ceremony, called a Siyum HaTorah, will be scheduled in late spring or early summer when the restoration is completed.
