CITY SERIES Timken rallies in final quarter to beat Wilson

Canton Timken rallied from behind to top the Redmen.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Canton Timken High, forcing 10 turnovers in the fourth quarter, came from behind to defeat Woodrow Wilson 65-57 in a City Series boys basketball game Friday night.
The Trojans (3-5, 3-0 City Series) finished a first half sweep of their league rivals.
The Redmen had the lead from the opening tip until 6:22 of the final period, when Timken senior guard Kennie Pascley, off of Wilson's fourth consecutive turnover, made a layup to give Timken a 47-46 lead.
Wilson grabbed the lead back twice in the next two minutes, but at the 3:26 mark, senior forward Stephonne Jackson, who had a game-high 21 points, along with eight assists and four steals, drilled his third 3-pointer of the night to give the Trojans a 52-50 lead.
Wilson stays close
The Redmen stayed close in the final minutes, at 55-53 and 59-57, but Timken kept the lead throughout, and Pascley finished the comeback with a pair of field goals in the final 12 seconds of the contest.
Pascley finished with 15 points, but the real leader of the Trojans' comeback was junior guard Eric Raine, who scored 20 points, including 18 in the second half and eight in the fourth quarter.
Wilson led 45-39 entering the final period, but Raine's back-to-back field goals, 20 seconds apart in the opening 1 1/2 minutes of the final period, tied the score at 45.
"We brought more defensive pressure in the final quarter and it was effective" said Timken coach Rick Hairston.
Raine added, "I had back spasms throughout the first half and couldn't really straighten up to shoot, but I fought through them and kept going to the hole."
Jackson, who earlier in the season scored 27 points against Chaney, said "We played together and found a way to win with a lot of people helping out."
Poindexter stars
Wilson (2-8, 1-2) was led by senior forward Randall Poindexter, who scored 18 points and pulled down 13 rebounds with four steals. Chauncey Whitlow also had a double-double for the Redmen with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Wilson finished with 24 turnovers, including 10 in the fourth quarter.
"This was a disappointing loss," said Wilson coach Mark Cherol. "We had the lead and because of fourth quarter turnovers and the inability to cope with their pressure we let the game get away."
