Certification course set for teachers

LISBON -- Substitute teacher certification training is being offered to qualified individuals.
The one-day course is set for 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 13 at the Columbiana County Educational Service Center, 38720 Saltwell Road, Lisbon.
Registration is required and must be completed by Friday.

To be eligible for the training, participants must possess a bachelor's degree, which can be in any subject, and must provide an official college transcript.
Cost of the training, criminal background check and processing fees for a one-year certification is $42 for Ohio residents.
If you have lived outside Ohio within the last five years, an FBI background check must be completed, which costs $24, bringing the total to $66.
Class size is limited to 25 people. A continental breakfast will be provided.
Certification is being offered to help remedy a shortage of substitute teachers faced by many school districts, Elaine Brye of the educational service center said.
Substitute teachers earn an average of $65 daily, she said.
