U Band students from Canfield High School will be among those onstage with River City Brass Band in a performance at 8 p.m. Feb. 1 in the newly restored Civic Theatre in downtown Akron. River City Brass Band is a professional concert band from Pittsburgh that performs folk songs, ballads, Broadway tunes and military marches. The Canfield students, as well as those from Barberton, Firestone and Kent-Roosevelt high schools, will perform "Stars and Stripes Forever" and "76 Trombones" with River City Brass Band during the finale. U "Sarah, Plain and Tall," a book that was turned into a revered made-for-TV movie, is being revived as a children's play by TheatreworksUSA. Pittsburgh International Children's Theater will present the production at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 12 in Byham Theatre, downtown Pittsburgh. The title character is a mail-order bride from Maine whose mannerisms and personality seem to clash with members of her new, Midwestern family. The show is recommended for children ages 8 to 14.
