Entertaining troops
Kimberly Burns, formerly of Vienna, toured the Mideast entertaining military personnel for the Christmas and New Year holidays under the auspices of the Department of Defense and Armed Forces Entertainment. She left the United States on Dec. 19 and is scheduled to return Tuesday. Burns, a 1992 graduate of Mathews High School in Vienna, is pursuing a career as a country/light-rock singer in Nashville, Tenn. She is a daughter of Richard and Shirley Burns of Vienna.
BASIC GRADS
Air Force: Airman Lisa M. Bukovinsky (Sharpsville, Pa., Area High School, '02), daughter of Jack and Carol Bukovinsky of Sharpsville.
Army: Reserve Pvt. Paul H. Hartman (East Palestine High School, '99), son of Paul Hartman of East Palestine, and the brother of Milissa Caudill of Youngstown.
PROMOTIONS
Battalion commander
Army Reserve Major Donald E. Miller was named commander of the 2nd Battalion, 399th Regiment, 7th Brigade, 100th Division at Fort Knox, Ky. He is expected to take command and be promoted to lieutenant colonel in February.
Miller, a graduate of Columbiana High School and Cumberland College in Williamsburg, Ky., lives in Waddy, Ky., with his wife, Rosemary, and three children. His mother, Phyllis J. Miller, lives in Boardman.
Air National Guard
Scott J. Julian graduated from the Air National Guard Academy of Military Science and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Air National Guard, a part of the Department of the Air Force.
Julian, an executive officer assigned to the 910th Airlift Wing, Air Force Reserve Station, Vienna, is the son of Mary L. Julian of Cortland and Vince F. Julian of Canfield. The second lieutenant is a 1995 graduate of Liberty High School, and a 2000 graduate of YSU.
HONORS
Achievement Medal
Navy Reserve Petty Officer 1st Class Tony B. Clark, son of Martha J. and Dennis B. Clark of Masury, received the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. He was recognized for his outstanding achievement while serving with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 23, Fort Belvoir, Va.
RETIREMENT
24 years in Navy
Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer Frank G. Sollitto, son of Marjorie L. Sollitto of Warren, retired after 24 years of service, most recently as a department supervisor aboard the guided missile frigate USS Elrod, which has its home port in Norfolk, Va.
During his career, Sollitto served in numerous assignments, including aboard the guided missile frigate USS Taylor, with a home port of Mayport, Fla., and the submarine tender USS Emory S. Land, with home port in La Maddalena, Italy.
Sollitto received several personal awards, and campaign ribbons and medals, including two Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, five Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals and three Navy Unit Commendations.
