Receives Eagle award
Andrew Voytko, son of Tom and Kathy Voytko of New Middletown, received his Eagle Scout award at a court of honor in St. Paul the Apostle Church in New Middletown.
The Rev. Nick Shori, pastor of St. Paul, and members of Troop 119 of New Springfield, conducted the ceremony.
His Eagle service project was to construct and install four all- weather benches for placement around the church's lake area.
His Scouting experiences included attending the Charles L. Sommers Northern Tier High Adventure Canoe Base in Ely, Minn., in 2000, and attending the Boy Scout Jamboree at Fort A. P. Hill in Virginia in 2001.
A junior at Springfield Local High School, Andrew is a member of the school's band, Spanish club and Academic Challenge team. He attends the church, where he is a hospitality minister and a member of the church's youth group.
LAWYERS
Passed state bar exam
John Gerak, of Cleveland, formerly of Struthers, recently passed the Ohio State Bar Examination and was sworn in as an attorney by the Ohio Supreme Court.
Gerak is a 1988 graduate of Struthers High School. In 1992, he graduated from Penn State University with a degree in labor and industrial relations.
After five years of playing professional football, Gerak retired in 1998 and went on to earn a master's in business administration from Fontbonne College in St. Louis, Mo. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 2002.
Gerak is employed by the law firm of Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease, which has offices in Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, Alexandria, Va., and Washington, D.C.
