Robinson has 27 as Beavers rout Wilson

YOUNGSTOWN -- The Beaver Local High boys basketball team reached the midway point of its season with a 6-4 record, after defeating host Woodrow Wilson 81-49 Saturday.
Topping four Beavers in double figures was junior guard Jake Robinson with 27 points and six steals.
"Because of a football injury, I missed the first two games," Robinson said. "I finally seem to be putting my game together."
Patrick Woods scored 20 points and had 11 of the Beavers' 36 rebounds, and senior Derek Smith had 11 points and 10 boards, with Justin Montgomery off the bench scoring 10 points.
Beaver Local coach Mike Solterbeck pointed out that of his team's four losses, two have come in overtime, another in double overtime and the other by a point at the end of a game.
"Our defense has been good all season, but now with us reaching the midway point, our offense, with our running game, is beginning to jell," Solterbeck said.
Senior point guard Chauncey Whitlow led Wilson (1-7) in scoring with 22 points and Randall Poindexter had 16 points with 11 rebounds.
David Johnson had 11 rebounds as the Redmen, who were 21 of 73 from the field, out-rebounded the Beavers 38-36.
"Once again there were too many turnovers and too many missed shots," said Wilson coach Mark Cherol. "For the first time this season we played back-to-back games and it showed defensively as we failed to get back a lot tonight."
