Volunteering
Volunteer Services Agency, a United Way Agency, is a local resource for volunteer recruitment, placement and management for people of all ages in the Mahoning Valley. It sponsors three programs: the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, which helps people 55 and older use their life experience skills in their communities; Volunteer Service to Seniors, which provides assistance and companionship to the elderly living independently in their homes; and the Volunteer Center, which helps people of all ages connect with local nonprofit agencies that need volunteer assistance. WILL YOU HELP?
Volunteer help is needed for these agencies:
American Red Cross (Blood services): People needed to assist with blood donor drives. Orientation and training provided.
Assisted-living facilities: Volunteers needed to do room visits, help with crafts, play cards and bingo and do seasonal decorating at these facilities: Austin Woods, Marian Living Center, Meridian Arms Living Center and Sunrise Assisted Living of Poland.
Eastern Regional Kidney Foundation: Volunteers needed as booth sitters for the annual Health-O-Rama on March 7 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. March 8. Training provided.
Children's Learning Center: Tutors are needed to work with dyslexic children. Also, volunteers are needed to perform receptionist duties Wednesdays from 4 to 7 p.m. The center is in the Masonic Temple, 223 Wick Ave., Youngstown.
Forum Health: Volunteers needed to work in the gift shop at Northside Medical Center.
Grace Place Medical Services: People 18 and older needed weekdays between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to work in the Thank You Center. Shifts are available. People will greet those entering Grace Place and collect vouchers for store items.
Hope House Visitation Center: People needed to work once a month or more frequently to help with child visitations and evaluations.
Potter's Wheel: Tutors needed to work one-on-one with women who are preparing to take the General Educational Development test.
Second Harvest Foodbank: Volunteers needed to sort and re-box food from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Shifts are available.
St. Elizabeth Health Center: People needed for a variety of jobs.
RSVP: Volunteers needed to be team leaders in organizing mailings, putting projects together, following up on assignments, and assisting with developing community projects.
Volunteer Service to Seniors: Committed people needed to provide grocery shopping, transportation assistance and to be caregivers to seniors who want to remain independent in their homes.
Youngstown Area Community Action Council: Two volunteer positions available, one for office jobs and the other for receptionist/clerk work.
