Heart-failure programprovides education
WARREN -- Trumbull Memorial Hospital is offering a free community program, "Living With Heart Failure," from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday. The program features a variety of medical professionals who will provide detailed education and discussion about heart failure.
Topics include dietary management, medications and side effects, energy conservation and ways to increase strength and duration without increasing oxygen demands. For more information, or to register, call (330) 841-9880.
Free-throw contestat St. Stephen School
NILES -- The Niles Knights of Columbus sponsors its annual free-throw contest Saturday in St. Stephen School gym.
Pupils from Niles and Mineral Ridge, ages 10-14, are eligible to participate.
Registration is at noon, with the competition beginning at 1 p.m.
Applications are available at all Niles schools and at Mineral Ridge Middle School.
Meeting set
McDONALD -- The board of education will have its reorganizational meeting at 6 p.m. Monday in the high-school library. The regular monthly meeting is at 6 p.m. Jan. 16 in the library.
Board of Elections
WARREN -- The Trumbull County Board of Elections will meet in regular session at 11:15 a.m. Monday at the board offices, 2947 Youngstown Road S.E. The special Newton Falls election will be certified.
Lordstown schools
LORDSTOWN -- The board of education will have its organizational meeting at 6 p.m. Jan. 14. The regular meeting will follow.
Fire destroys home
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- A fire Friday afternoon destroyed the mobile home of Thomas Glaister of Frogtown Road in Penwood Estates.
Bob Goeltz with the Hermitage Fire Department reported that the fire was accidental and possibly electrical.
Glaister, his wife and two teenage children were unhurt in the blaze. The local chapter of the American Red Cross was assisting the family.
Goeltz said the home was fully insured and added that no dollar amount was available for the loss.
More loans to farmers
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- A Pennsylvania program providing low-interest loans to small businesses will be available to farmers, state Sen. Robert Robbins said.
The Small Business First Loan Program will begin lending capital to eligible farmers in 2003 to buy equipment, technology, land and buildings.
