Few things symbolize both physical and emotional warmth the way a quilt does. It's a work of art with a practical side, a result of hours of labor that often becomes a beloved heirloom to bind the generations.
Kathy Lamancusa recognizes the power of a quilt to warm our souls and our bodies, so she created "Quilts Are Forever," a compilation of stories about what quilts represent in our lives.
Lamancusa gathered essays from dozens of contributors whose stories form a patchwork of emotion. They touch on universal experiences, such as joy, loss, nostalgia, insecurity, laughter and friendship. Even Lamancusa's son, Joe Lamancusa Jr., contributed, writing about his resistance of -- and eventual gratitude for -- the quilt his mother made for him to take to college.
"Quilts Are Forever" is published by Simon & amp; Schuster. It is available in paperback and priced at $12.
