GIRLS BASKETBALL Unbeaten Ursuline spills Maplewood



CORTLAND -- Courtney Davidson, who scored 18 of her game-high 22 points in the first half, kept the unbeaten Ursuline High girls basketball team rolling as the Irish topped Maplewood 60-24 Saturday in a non-league encounter.
Davidson helped the Irish (9-0) with three straight 3-point baskets in the second quarter as Ursuline built a commanding 38-12 lead by intermission.
The Irish defense limited the Rockets to six points each in all four quarters.
Tyra Grant chipped in with 18 points, while Staci Ziobert, Camela Barnette and Grant each had six rebounds as the Irish held a 28-20 rebounding advantage.
Stephanie Schwartz led the Rockets (7-5) with five points.
Canfield 78, Struthers 37
STRUTHERS -- The Cardinals (5-5, 2-1) put the Metro Athletic Conference game out of reach by building a 55-21 lead by the end of the third quarter.
Corey Hoffman paced Canfield with 17 points. Kelly Williams chipped in with 11 and eight assists.
Jill Vertanen, who grabbed nine rebounds, Emily Wollet and Stephanie Zunic each scored 10 points. Holly Hickenbottom paced the Wildcats (3-7, 0-1) with nine points. Melissa Shipley pulled down seven rebounds and Allison Ginnetti had five assists.
Mooney 60, Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary 54 (OT)
AKRON -- Senior Aieshya Dixon, who will play for the University of Pittsburgh next year, scored four points in overtime to lead the 8-1 Cardinals. Dixon finished with 16 points, while Megan Maloney had 13, Gina Brunetti had 11 and Anastasia Vouvalis had 10.
Mooney outscored St. Vincent 11-5 in the extra frame.
Reaching double figures for the Irish (6-4) were Katie Murphy with 17, Kellyn Murphy with 14 and Angie Chirrochi with 10.
Western Reserve 59, Jackson-Milton 38
BERLIN CENTER -- Anna Marie Ricciardi scored 11 of her 24 points in the first quarter when the Blue Devils bolted out to a 21-8 lead. Jen White also hit for 12 points for Western Reserve (9-1, 4-0), which has won six straight. Sarah Johnson scored 19 points for the Bluejays (1-7, 0-3).
West Branch 44, Columbus Wellington 38
CLEVELAND -- Ashley Armstrong scored 18 points to lead West Branch to its eighth win in nine games, over Columbus Wellington at Gund Arena.
Evelyn Woods added 11 points for the Warriors, who outscored Wellington in three of the four quarters. Rene Haynes led Wellington with 15 points.
Farrell 35, Warren JFK 32
FARRELL, Pa. -- The Steelers rallied in the fourth quarter to turn back the Eagles (7-2). Behind by a point, Farrell outscored Warren JFK 12-8 in the final period. Aarika Knepp, who grabbed 15 rebounds, and Alyssa Chavex each scored 10 points for the Eagles.
Kelly Davis paced the Steelers with 14 points. Amber Sebert added 10.
