BOYS BASKETBALL Springfield rolls against Quakers



Jackson-Milton held off Western Reserve, 71-68, in the Inter-County League.
SALEM -- Eleven players scored points for the Springfield High basketball team and Salem was shut out in the second quarter Saturday as the Tigers defeated the Quakers 73-34 in a boys basketball game.
Dan Schuler, Jeff Mershimer and Henrik Thomsen scored 12, 11 and 10 points, respectively, in a balanced attack for the Tigers (8-1).
Zac Grey scored nine points for the Quakers (3-5). Springfield led 13-7 after eight minutes and was in front 33-7 at the break.
Jackson-Milton 71, Western Reserve 68
BERLIN CENTER -- Justin Vayner hit six 3-pointers and finished with 22 points to lead visiting Jackson-Milton in an Inter-County League game.
Chris Thomas had a chance to tie the game for the Blue Devils, but missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer.
Zack Nicholas scored 18 points and Tim Shaw added 14 for Jackson-Milton (3-4, 2-1). Nick Rubenstahl added 11 points.
Ryan Jones scored 24 points for Reserve (3-6, 2-1). Jake Zatchok added 14 points and 11 rebounds and Kyle Trimble had 13 points.
South Range 58, Campbell 41
CAMPBELL -- Jordan Taylor scored 22 points -- including three 3-pointers -- to lead visiting South Range (5-2).
George Rohan added 13 points for the Raiders, who outscored Campbell 24-5 in the second quarter to break the game open.
Teyon Harris and Darlin Johnson each scored 10 for Campbell (4-5).
McDonald 58, Mineral Ridge 46
MINERAL RIDGE -- Ken McKay fired in four 3-point goals and scored 20 points, while Tyler Stanley and Josh Camuso each had 11 points for the Blue Devils (6-1, 3-0 ICL).
McDonald out-scored Mineral Ridge 27-10 in the second quarter.
McKay scored 11 points in the second period when McDonald wiped out a 14-8 deficit and took a 35-24 lead into the break.
Greg Dominic hit for 12 points, Andrew Whitmer added 11 and Jason Garland scored 10 for the Rams (0-7). Judson Williamson had seven of Ridge's 27 rebounds.
Hubbard 50, Girard 41
HUBBARD -- Zack Willis scored a dozen points for the Eagles, who pulled away with an 18-7 third-quarter advantage.
Gabe McKee and Jacoby Morris each scored 11 points for Hubbard in the Trumbull Athletic Conference game.
Dustin Helle led Girard with 13 points, including three 3-pointers.
Newton Falls 60, LaBrae 46
LEAVITTSBURG -- Kevin Powell scored 19 points and grabbed eight of 32 rebounds for the Tigers (7-1, 5-0 TAC). Jeff Stanley chipped in with 10 points. Brett Briscoe took scoring honors for the Vikings (3-5, 2-2) with 20 points.
Maplewood 58, Warren JFK 55 (OT)
MECCA -- Maplewood scored all of its overtime points at the foul line, hitting nine of 12 at the stripe.
Matt Chronister scored 18 points, while Kevin Peterson and Joe Young were in with 10 apiece for the Rockets (7-1). Keith Black scored 13 points and John DeFiore tacked on 12 more for the Eagles (5-4).
Zanesville 77, East Liverpool 49
EAST LIVERPOOL -- Zanesville put all five starters in double figures and rolled easily past East Liverpool.
Zanesville (7-1) was led by Gordon Lear with 18 points, while Chuck Cleccher and Matt Farus each added 14 and Zack Bowers and Brandon Grubb hit for 11 each. East Liverpool (6-4) was led by Josh Reed with 16 and Scott Gales with 14.
Canal Fulton Northwest 57, West Branch 36
CANAL FULTON -- Chuck Samsa scored 19 points to lead Northwest (6-3, 5-1). Robert Stull had eight points for West Branch (2-7, 2-4).
