OTTAWA -- Marian Hossa had a career-high and team-record four goals -- including three straight in the first period -- to lead financially troubled Ottawa. Ottawa, which leads the Eastern Conference with 53 points, played its first game since failing to meet its player payroll after a complex refinancing deal fell through two days earlier. Todd White -- selected earlier in the day as the NHL's player of the month for December -- Jody Hull, Shaun Van Allen and Radek Bonk also scored for the Senators. They have lost just three of their last 26 games (19-3-4-0).
Flames 4, Lightning 1
CALGARY, Alberta -- Jarome Iginla scored twice, and Calgary rode three power-play goals in the first period over Tampa Bay. Chris Drury assisted on power-play goals by Martin Gelinas, Stephane Yelle and Iginla, who added an empty-netter in the final minute of the game. It was the first two-goal game of the season for last season's NHL goal-scoring leader. Goaltender Roman Turek made 25 saves in his 19th consecutive start to improve to 10-13-5. Martin St. Louis got his 20th goal for Tampa Bay in the third period.
Wild 2, Oilers 1, OT
EDMONTON, Alberta -- Jim Dowd got a lucky bounce and credit for the game-winning goal with 44 seconds remaining in overtime for Minnesota. The puck deflected off the stick of Edmonton defenseman Janne Niinimaa and got by Tommy Salo for Dowd's fourth goal to complete a Minnesota rally. Andrei Zyuzin scored with just 2:06 remaining in regulation to the send the game into overtime. Salo stopped the first shot, but the rebound went right to Zyuzin in the slot and he beat the goaltender high to stick side for his first of the season. Anson Carter scored for the Oilers.
Flyers 4, Kings 1
LOS ANGELES -- Keith Primeau and Andre Savage scored less than three minutes apart in the first period for Philadelphia, which also got goals from Tomi Kallio and Pavel Brendl. Mikko Eloranta beat Roman Cechmanek in the second period for the only Los Angeles goal.
Canucks 3, Canadiens 2
VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Markus Naslund scored twice to continue a torrid offensive streak. Naslund gave Vancouver a 2-1 lead midway through the second period, then added his NHL-leading 27th goal with 1:36 left in the period -- just 62 seconds after Richard Zednik tied the game for Montreal. Naslund has six goals and five assists in his last six games. Bryan Allen also scored for the Canucks, and Andrei Markov for Montreal.
Blackhawks 4, Blues 1
ST. LOUIS -- Jocelyn Thibault just missed a second straight shutout, and Kyle Calder had a goal and an assist as Chicago ran its unbeaten streak to seven games. Nathan Dempsey added three assists for the Blackhawks, 5-0-2 in that stretch. Thibault made 28 saves and blanked the Blues before Cory Stillman scored his 15th goal of the season and the 150th of his career at 6:35 of the third period. Alexander Karpovtsev, Theo Fleury and Steve Sullivan also had goals for Chicago.
Panthers 4, Avalanche 1
DENVER -- Viktor Kozlov scored two goals, Jani Hurme stopped 27 shots and Florida flexed its road muscles once more. Despite winning for just the second time in seven games, the Panthers earned a point for a 14th straight road game. They are 6-0-4-4 in that span. Olli Jokinen and Lance Ward also scored for Florida, which got three first-period goals against David Aebischer. Peter Forsberg scored his fifth goal in three games for the Avalanche.
Stars 3, Sharks 1
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Mike Modano had a goal and an assist, and Marty Turco made 23 saves as Dallas emphasized its return to dominance in the Pacific Division. Philippe Boucher scored a short-handed goal on a spectacular pass from Modano, and Jason Arnott got a power-play goal as the Stars won their first meeting with the Sharks, who last spring won the division title held by Dallas for three years. Mike Rathje scored for the Sharks, but their five-game unbeaten streak at home ended in terrible special-teams play and a flurry of outstanding saves by Turco.
