LORDSTOWN -- Council has rescheduled its first meeting of the new year.
Instead of Monday, lawmakers will meet Wednesday.
Caucus begins at 4:30 p.m.; the regular meeting follows at 5 p.m.
Crash kills driver
AUSTINTOWN -- Brian Skinner, 26, of North Jackson died at St. Elizabeth Health Center with injuries from a one-car crash early New Year's Day on Interstate 680, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
A passenger, John Giannini, 31, of Youngstown, was in critical condition today. Skinner's vehicle went off the road, struck a light pole and overturned near Lanterman Road, the patrol said.
Bank robbery arrest
YOUNGSTOWN -- The FBI thinks it has solved the Dec. 26 robbery at Home Savings & amp; Loan downtown.
Marlin F. McPeters, 37, formerly of Ohio Avenue, was arrested Monday at an apartment in Detroit by FBI agents and Detroit police.
A bank teller told police the robber said he wanted to make a withdrawal. When the teller asked for a driver's license, he grabbed a piece of paper and a pen and wrote "Give me money shoot" and handed it to the teller, reports show.
The teller turned over about $3,000, including four marked bills.
Wounded at home
YOUNGSTOWN -- Phillip Albenze, 33, of Eleanor Avenue was shot in the arm and back about 1:40 a.m. New Year's Day.
Albenze told police he had been in the basement of his home with his wife and several friends, very intoxicated and singing with a karaoke machine.
When the machine broke, he said, his wife became angry. After unsuccessful attempts to fix the machine, Albenze punched a lamp, then went upstairs to sleep.
He told police his wife yelled and tried to pull him out of bed. They were hugging in a bathroom and he heard a loud bang, he said. Albenze said he pulled away from his wife, saw a gun in her hand and realized he'd been shot.
His wife offered another version of what happened and filled out a domestic violence report. Albenze was in stable condition today in a local hospital.
Man shot in legs
YOUNGSTOWN -- Devon Clemens, 28, of West Judson Avenue told police he was shot in both legs at the Shell gas station on Oak Street at 9 p.m. New Year's Eve.
Police collected nine casings from the lot.
Clemens told police he saw a car drive by with two men inside who opened fire. He was treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center. Clemens offered police no motive for the shooting.
Police nab youth
YOUNGSTOWN -- Police said a 16-year-old West Chalmers Avenue boy made an unsuccessful attempt to elude them while driving a stolen car at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday on the South Side.
Instead of pulling over in response to police lights and sirens, the boy sped up and drove onto several streets before hitting a building at 271 E. Indianola Ave.
He jumped out and ran through yards into the parking lot of Cardinal Mooney High School, where he collided with the door of a cruiser before being caught in a wooded area.
Police discovered that a pickup order had been issued by the juvenile justice center for the Wilson High School student, who was wearing an ankle bracelet, used for house arrest.
He faces charges of receiving stolen property, fleeing and eluding, resisting arrest, having no driver's license and possession of criminal tools (a screwdriver).
Teacher injured
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A 16-year-old city boy is accused of injuring a female teacher during a fight at New Castle High School. The boy faces charges of simple assault and disorderly conduct in juvenile court, said Matthew Mangino, Lawrence County district attorney.
Mangino said the boy walked into a classroom Dec. 12 and began to assault another student. The teacher attempted to stop the assault and was inadvertently struck in the right eye, causing an injury that required medical attention.
The 16-year-old was released into the custody of his parents.
Adult education
EAST PALESTINE -- Registration begins Monday at the high school for the winter session of adult and community education.
Introduction to computers, digital cameras, weight training and fitness, beginning golf for women and officiating high school track and field begin Jan. 13.
Classes are 6:30-8:30 p.m. one day a week for six weeks Monday, Wednesday or Thursday. Cost is $25 for school district residents and $50 for nonresidents.
