Rehabilitation continues on Lipkey Road bridge

NORTH JACKSON -- As part of the Ohio Turnpike's Capital Improvement Program, the Lipkey Road bridge in Jackson Township continues to undergo rehabilitation.
The repairs include reconstruction of 530 linear feet of road, grading, slope repairs and traffic paint.
Also, replacement of a 5-foot span steel bridge with a 4-foot span steel bridge; pier replacement; and the replacement of guardrails, abutments, abutment slab and approach slab.
Work on the bridge, which began in May, forced a temporary closure and detour, said the Ohio Turnpike Commission.
The project was expected to be complete in November. There was a minor setback, however, because of concrete that did not meet the state's minimum-strength requirements, the commission said.
The deficient concrete had to be removed and the bridge deck work redone. As a result, the commission said, the completion date was delayed several months.
It's harder to pour concrete in the winter months, but the contractor is using heaters on the deck area, the commission said.
The commission anticipates that the contractor will repour the deck in mid-January. If there are no more problems, the bridge should be open by early to mid-February.
