Prizes an incentive to Mercer donors

The fund-raising campaign is about three-fourths of the way to its goal.
SHARON, Pa. -- It took only a donation of $52, and three Mercer County residents walked away with prizes worth much more.
The United Way of Mercer County announced the winners of its three grand prizes given out to donors who helped in this year's campaign.
Each person who pledged a minimum of $52 was given a chance at the prizes. Each additional $52 provided another chance for that person, up to four chances.
Thomas Libeg, a partner in the accounting firm of McGill, Power, Bell & amp; Associates, was the grand prize winner.
He will have his choice of one of the 10 new vehicles. The choices are: a Chevrolet S-10 pickup, a Chevrolet Cavalier, a Dodge Neon SXT, a Ford Escort ZX2, a Ford Focus LX, a Honda Civic, a Hyundai Accent, a Mitsubishi Lancer, a Nissan Sentra GXE or a Toyota Echo.
These car dealerships are sharing the approximate $12,000 cost for the vehicle: Ben Bissett Chevrolet Oldsmobile, Bill McCandless Ford Mercury Inc., Dodge City Inc., Hermitage Mitsubishi, Mel Grata Chevrolet-Toyota, Preston Ford Inc., Sharon Chrysler-Plymouth Inc. and Shenango Honda-Nissan.
Other prizes
Ronald Abbott, a Wheatland Tube employee at the Wheatland plant, won the second prize, which was two airline tickets for anywhere in the domestic 48 states. The tickets were donated by Plaza Travel and Continental Airlines.
Third-prize winner John Miess, a Wheatland Tube employee at the Sharon plant, won his-and-her rocker-recliners from Goldstein's Furniture.
All three prizes were donated in an effort to increase donations.
UW Director Jim Micsky said they haven't yet calculated how much extra money came in for this year's campaign because of the giveaway. This is the first time incentives were used in Mercer County's United Way Campaign.
As of Friday, 75.6 percent of the goal had been reached. The UW hopes to raise $1.15 million.
Micsky said the campaign will go into next year, and he is unsure when it will end. Last year, the UW raised $1,020,000.
