REGIONAL COLLEGE BASKETBALL Davis sets Thiel's record for points
Senior A.H. Davis of Boardman became Thiel College's all-time leading scorer.
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- A.H. Davis became the top scorer in school history as Thiel locked up the top seed in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Tournament with a 91-88 win over Waynesburg Saturday.
Davis, a senior forward from Boardman High School, hit Thiel's opening shot of the first half.
With the basket, Davis became the all-time leading scorer in the history of the men's program at Thiel.
He surpassed the 1,607 points put up by All-American Vic Harp from 1981 through 1985.
Manley ties game
Thiel rallied after being down 23-10 with 14:32 to play in the first half, and tied the game at 32-32 on a 3-pointer by senior guard Shane Manley (East Palestine High) with 8:18 left. A jumper by senior Eddie Mathews put the Tomcats up by three, 43-40, with 1:42 remaining in the half.
Thiel finished with four players in double figures -- Davis (24), Manley (16), Mike Banach (12) and Matt Dracup (11).
The Tomcats (15-10, 7-3) will play host to the winner of Tuesday's game between fifth-seeded Washington & amp; Jefferson College and fourth-seeded Westminster College, unless sixth-seeded Bethany College wins at third-seeded Waynesburg College Tuesday evening. Thiel then would then host sixth-seeded Bethany.
The Tomcats' game on Thursday at Rissell-Beeghly Gymnasia will tip-off at 7:30 p.m. Senior guard Ray Robinson scored 42 points for Waynesburg (16-8, 6-4).
Mount Union 58, Muskingum 56
NEW CONCORD -- Curtis Stevens scored 15 points to help Mount Union win the Ohio Athletic Conference game.
Chris Blakely added 10 points for the Purple Raiders (17-8, 12-6).
Mount Union is the third seed in the OAC tournament, and will play host to the sixth seed, Baldwin-Wallace, Wednesday.
Kent Keitch scored 16 points for Muskingum (10-15, 6-12), which also will play an OAC tournament game at home on Monday.
Justin Clifford made two free throws to pull the Muskies into a 54-54 tie with 2:26 to play, but Stevens made a jumper to give the Purple Raiders a 56-54 lead with 1:07 to play.
After Rob Paulauskas made two free throws to make it 58-54, Jason Trout scored on a layup with two seconds left to make it 58-56.
Westminster 76, Bethany 74
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Brian Fadden, a graduate of Mohawk High School, scored a career-high 22 points, hitting 12 of 13 free thrown for the Titans (10-15, 4-6 PAC).
Fadden hit a game-winning lay-up with three seconds remaining.
Greg Foster (Ursuline High School) collected his 16th double-double this year with 21 points and 11 rebounds.
For Bethany (10-14, 3-7), Mike Majzun (Struthers High School) scored 21 points.
It was the regular-season finale for each team.
Oberlin 69, Hiram 66
OBERLIN -- Justin Perkins, Bosko Tomasevic, Brandon Crawford and Dewayne Evans scored 18, 17, 11 and 11 points, respectively, for Oberlin (3-22, 2-14 NCAC).
David Mayle hit for 18 points for Hiram (6-19, 4-12), which shot out to a 31-29 lead at the half.
Matt Kersten bolstered the Hiram attack with 16 points and Carlton Dean had 11 points.
Hiram took a 66-63 lead on Mayle's three-point play with 3:06 left.
Oberlin responded with six unanswered points, including four from Djordje Eremic, who finished with eight points.
Mt. Vernon Nazarene 94, Geneva 87
MOUNT VERNON -- Phil Argento scored 25 points to pace Mt. Vernon Nazarene (18-12).
Terrance Ward, Tim Sawyer, Jerome Moss, Stefan Grundberg and Derrick Webb scored 21, 13, 13, 12 and 10 points respectively for Geneva (17-11).
Grove City 86, Wash. & amp; Jeff. 66
WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Canfield High School graduate Andy Vlajkovic made five of six 3-point tries and scored 23 points while Tanner Prosser and Nate Maurer each had 17 points for Grove City (16-8, 7-3 PAC).
Nolan Larry poured in 30 points for W & amp;J (6-18, 3-7).
Capital 76, Ohio Northern 67
ADA -- Tony Ruberg scored 16 points to lead five players in double figures, as Capital clinched a tie for the OAC regular-season title.
The Polar Bears (13-12, 11-7) pulled to 66-65 on a basket by Aaron Fries with 5:47 to play, but the Crusaders (20-5, 15-3) went on an 11-2 run to end the game.
John Carroll 70, Marietta 66
MARIETTA -- Ryan Dolatowski scored 21 points and had 12 rebounds, as John Carroll clinched a share of the OAC regular-season title. The Blue Streaks (18-6, 15-3) took a 67-60 lead with 2:49 to play on a 3-pointer by Peter Koch. The Pioneers (9-16, 5-13) responded with back-to-back 3-pointers by Ottmas Richards to cut it to 67-66 with 1:27 to play.
Baldwin Wallace 76, Otterbein 72
BEREA -- Thad Davis scored a career-high 29 points and had 14 rebounds, to lead Baldwin-Wallace.
The Cardinals (15-10, 11-7 OAC) cut it to 63-61 with 4:40 to play, but the Yellow Jackets (13-12, 9-9) responded with a 9-2 run to take a 72-63 lead with 2:54 to play.
