HELOISE It's curtains for soap scum in the shower

Dear Heloise: What do you use on shower curtains to remove soap scum? Linda Spencer, Waco, Texas
For a clear, plastic shower curtain or liner, all you have to do is wash it in your washing machine to remove that buildup!
First, fill the washer (using the highest water level) with warm water and add 1/2 to 1 cup of regular household chlorine bleach and the normal amount of detergent you usually use.
Next, let the machine agitate for a minute to mix the detergent and bleach. Then add the plastic shower curtain and three to four white bath towels for scrubbing action. Let the machine go through the full cycle and then immediately remove the liner. You can hang it back on the rod to air-dry or put it in your dryer with the towels on a LOW heat setting for a few minutes only to help remove any wrinkles and dry it more quickly. Heloise
FYI: Wash a shower-curtain liner once a month to help keep that soap scum from building up! And cut off the bottom seam so it won't collect moisture.

Dear Heloise: During the past few months we have received many more calendars than we really need.
I used some of them to make gifts to my grown nieces. I took the calendars and on each month placed a photo of anyone whose birthday falls on that month. This way, they can call or send a card to wish the person "Happy Birthday!" I also included anniversaries as well. Sherry, Newburgh, N.Y.
Dear Heloise: After being married for more than 40 years and constantly having hand towels in the bathroom that are never folded and hung up correctly, I decided to sew our hand towels into the shape that I hang them over the towel bar.
Now instead of removing the messed-up towel and refolding it, all I have to do is straighten it on the towel bar. This saves me time, and our bathroom looks neat again. Carol Jake, Kenosha, Wis.
