Man arrested in defrauding of Amish over logging rights

HUBBARD -- A Kinsman man wanted on charges of duping two Amish families out of more than $30,000 is in custody.
Township police Detective Mike Begeot said Timothy Grimes, 34, of Elm Street, was arrested Wednesday afternoon at a Warren residence by Detective Rick Tackett of the Trumbull County Sheriff's Department.
Grimes is charged with two counts of theft and one count of forgery. He was to be arraigned today in Girard Municipal Court.
Begeot says Grimes sold two Amish families in Middlefield, a Geauga County community, fraudulent agreements giving them logging rights on properties on Mount Everett and Fox North roads.
One family paid him $17,500 and the other paid $13,000 for the rights.
The scam came to the attention of police when the owner of one of the properties saw the Amish cutting timber on his land without permission.
Begeot said today additional charges may be filed against Grimes regarding other scams.
