BOYS BASKETBALL Clemente, Shaker ignite Warren JFK



The Eagles defeated Howland 87-70 in the Girard Holiday Tournament.
GIRARD -- Colin Clemente and Chris Shaker each scored 28 points Saturday to lead the Warren John F. Kennedy High boys basketball team to an 87-70 victory over Howland in a semifinal of the Girard Holiday Tournament.
Clemente had five 3-point goals. Shaker also grabbed 10 rebounds, while Jimmy Kokrak contributed 17 points, 10 rebounds and six assists to reinforce the Eagles (4-3).
Justin Byler had 15 points to lead Howland (2-4), while Neil Claggett and Jeff Proctor added 13 each, Ryan Johnson 10 and Dario Hadzovic nine.
Ursuline beat Girard 66-59 in the other game.
Struthers 56, Springfield 53
STRUTHERS -- Rick Kukura made six free throws in the fourth quarter, four with under a minute remaining, to secure Struthers' non-conference victory over Springfield.
Mike Duponty led the Wildcats (2-5) with 16 points, while Dave Mathews added 15 and Kukura 14.
Tobey Culler led Springfield (3-1) with 15 points.
Mohawk 78, Campbell 77 (2 OT)
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Shawn Carr collected 32 points, seven rebounds and four assists for the winners (8-3) in the consolation game of the Union Christmas Tournament.
Campbell (3-4), which made more baskets (33-24), shot just 5-for-9 from the foul line.
Ricky Quinn had 21 points and four rebounds, Terrance Phillips scored 16 points, Teyon Harris had 10 points and four rebounds and Louie Samonas tacked on 10 points for the Red Devils.
Campbell has now lost four games by a combined 11 points.
Ashtabula Lakeside 70, Wilson 41
ASHTABULA -- Chauncey Whitlow scored 25 points in a losing cause for Woodrow Wilson, which was out-scored from the field, 31-19, and made only one foul shot.
David Stenroos led Lakeside with 16 points, while Ray Harris added 13 and Tim Moroski 11.
Marlington 68, Salem 63 (2 OT)
SALEM -- Salem pushed Marlington to double overtime, but the Quakers (2-2) couldn't hang on for the win. Joe Smith and Zac Grey tied for game-high honors with 15 points each for Salem, while Landon Heath and Tyler Pierce added 12 each.
Heath and T.J. Decrow each grabbed eight rebounds, and Heath also added seven assists.
Crestview 79, South Range 53
EAST FAIRFIELD -- Jason Beachler had 23 points and nine rebounds to spark Crestview (3-1), which made 33-of-58 from the field. Ross Mercer chipped in with 15 points, while Scott Raschilla had 10, plus five assists and four steals. Ken Wagenhouser added nine points and Kirk Phlugh seven points and four steals. South Range (1-3) was led by John Less with 16 points and Jordan Taylor with 15.
United 86, Malvern 40
MALVERN -- United made 10 3-pointers in its rout of Malvern.
Mitch Phillis made four 3-pointers and scored 19 points for the Eagles (4-0), while Corey Manfull added 15 points, Dale Woolf 14 and Tyler Boyle 11. D'Andrew Soltis grabbed six rebounds, while Phillis added five steals and Woolf three assists.
Newton Falls 58, Badger 49
NEWTON FALLS -- Kirby Spahlinger scored 15 points and Chad Rankin added 10 as the Tigers (4-1) held off Badger in a non-conference game. Kyle Arnold made four 3-pointers en route to a team-high 17 points for Badger (0-6). Tyler Romine added 12 points for the Braves.
Southern 73, Bridgeport 46
SALINEVILLE -- Josh Diaz came up with a 31-point, 13-rebound game to ignite the Indians (4-1). Rick Tanner added 13 points for Southern, which led just 29-20 at the break.
Kennedy Catholic 76, Jeannette 65
BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- Alberic Kandy scored 22 points to lead the Golden Eagles (9-2) in the Blackhawk Tournament. He was followed by David Jackson (15 points and seven rebounds), Roddy Fuller (14 points), Brandon Mirizio (11), Shamus Reimold (11) and Sharron Summerville (13 assists).
