NBA Big quarter helps Portland

The Trail Blazers' 37-point second quarter led to victory over Minnesota.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- One quarter made the difference for the Portland Trail Blazers.
The Blazers outscored the Minnesota Timberwolves 37-17 in the second quarter on their way to winning 101-92 Friday night.
Wesley Person scored 16 of his season-high 20 points in the second for the Blazers, who held Kevin Garnett scoreless for the entire quarter.
Garnett, who had 15 points in the second half, finished with 27 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists. But it was too late to catch the Blazers, who led 61-43 at halftime.
"I thought the big factor for us tonight was the way our defense picked up," Blazers coach Maurice Cheeks said. "Our energy level has improved on defense."
Streak is snapped
Jeff McInnis had 21 points and eight assists for the Blazers, who snapped Minnesota's six-game winning streak.
"That's all because they were aggressive and took it from us in the second quarter," said Timberwolves forward Latrell Sprewell, who had 21 points.
Sam Cassell added 23 points for Minnesota.
The Timberwolves led 26-24 after the first quarter behind 12 points from Garnett, but Portland went on a 10-0 run to open up the second, and Rasheed Wallace kept Garnett in check.
"When you have [Michael] Olowakandi and Wally [Szczerbiak] hurt, Kevin has to do more," Minnesota coach Flip Saunders said. "He may not be scoring points, but he's rebounding, passing the ball and playing defense. We just weren't in good rhythm tonight."
Person, a 6-foot-6 guard who the Blazers acquired from Memphis in Dec. 3 trade for Bonzi Wells, is averaging 7.3 points this season.
"This is one of those nights I got off to a good start and got into a good rhythm," Person said. "The basket looked really big tonight."
McInnis was 9-of-12 from the field, and matched a season-high in scoring.
Almost out of hole
Minnesota was down by as many as 18 points in the second half before pulling to 80-76 early in the fourth quarter. Person, who shot 8-of-12, then made a jumper to start a 9-0 run.
Cassell scored on a runner to pull the Timberwolves to 97-92 with 38.7 seconds remaining, but Person answered with a turnaround jumper from the top of the key with 17.5 seconds left.
"No doubt Wesley changed the game," Cheeks said. "His shooting in the second quarter was the difference."
Wallace had 14 points and nine rebounds for Portland, which out-rebounded the Timberwolves 45-33.
Randolph had 18 points and 12 rebounds, for his 15th double-double in 27 games.
