BOYS BASKETBALL Zidian keys Mooney win



YOUNGSTOWN -- Senior David Zidian scored 23 points, including a perfect 4-for-4 performance from the foul line in the final minute Monday as the Cardinal Mooney High boys basketball team held off Cleveland Benedictine, 64-57.
The Cardinals (5-1), who have won three straight, led 49-35 after three quarters before the Tigers (3-3) closed fast.
Ron Stoops added a season-high 21 points and Jeff Hehr had 12 points for the Cardinals.
Former Youngstown State basketball standout Bob Patton coaches Benedictine.
Andre Smith scored 11 of his 27 points in the fourth quarter for the Tigers.
Union 56, Laurel 50
Craig Hannon scored 14 of his game-high 24 points in the third quarter as Union rallied from a 25-16 halftime deficit to win the Union Holiday Tournament.
After falling behind by 11 in the third quarter, the Scotties used a 17-2 run to take the lead for good, 37-33.
Bobby Burkes added 15 points for Union (5-4). Hannon was named tournament MVP, while teammate Mike Mukaabya joined him on the all-tournament team.
Mike Burkett, who had 18 points for Laurel (9-2), made the all-tournament team along with teammate Bobby Turner, Mohawk's Shawn Carr and Campbell's Chris Melnick.
Beaver Falls 51, Kennedy Catholic 50
BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- Kennedy Catholic finished sixth in the Blackhawk Tournament after losing the close game.
Roddy Fuller had 12 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Golden Eagles (9-3). He was supported by David Jackson's 17 points and Sharron Summerville's 15 points. Shamus Reimold handed out four assists.
