Special care keeps winter clothes neat

KNIGHT RIDDER NEWSPAPERS
Woolens and other heavy winter clothes often require special care. Here are some pointers for keeping cold-weather clothes looking their best, from the Soap and Detergent Association:
UA wrinkle-releasing spray will improve the look of casual winter wear that's become wrinkled in storage. As with any product, read the garment's label first to make sure the spray is safe for the fabric.
UFreshen dry-cleaned fabrics with a fabric refresher.
USweaters that were stored flat in an airtight container may look limp. Fluff them and remove wrinkles by tumbling them in a clothes dryer on the air-dry setting with a dryer sheet.
UClothes that have been stored with mothballs or moth crystals can have a lingering odor. To remove it, try hanging the garments outdoors in the shade to air. If that doesn't work, wash the clothes or have them dry cleaned.
UWear a neck scarf to protect your coat's collar from perspiration, body oils and hair products.
UHang winter coats on padded hangers to avoid distortion of the neckline and damage to the fabric.
UStore leather garments in a cool, well-ventilated area to keep the leather from drying out and to prevent mildew.
