Foreman has arm reattached after forklift accident

PITTSBURGH (AP) -- A construction foreman was recovering today from surgery to reattach his arm that was severed by a toppled forklift.
Witnesses said John Andrew, 53, of Baldwin, shoved a young apprentice out of the way Tuesday before the forklift fell on top of him.
Andrew was in critical condition, hospital officials in Pittsburgh said.
Family and co-workers said they were not surprised Andrew would risk his own life to save a co-worker.
"I don't know for sure, but I think he may have thought, 'This [could've been] my son,'" said Kathy Andrew, his wife.
A large truck driving past the construction site in Homestead, just outside Pittsburgh, glanced the forklift, knocking it toward a young construction worker, police said.
It is believed the forklift was protruding into the street. Charges have not been filed in the accident.
Medical experts not involved in the surgery said it could be two years before it is known if Andrew will gain full use of his arm, though he could regain some use in six months.
