SALEM -- A family's offer of a $10,000 reward in the 2001 disappearance of a Middleton Township woman is producing some information, an investigator said.
"We're getting a few phone calls," Columbiana County Sheriff Detective Allan Young said recently.
Young is one of the investigators who have been probing the case of Tracy Hill, who was last seen June 7, 2001, at her job in a factory in North Lima in Mahoning County.
It's doubtful that Hill is alive, authorities and her family say.
So far, no one has emerged as a suspect in her disappearance.
Hill's family, many of whom believe she was murdered, announced last month a $10,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of someone in the case.
Young said the money has produced more than a dozen calls, some of which officials are following.
He didn't characterize any of the tips as significant and said some seem little more than rumors.
So far, no new searches are planned as a result of the recent information, Young said.
Searches
Several searches were conducted after Hill vanished.
Authorities probed the area surrounding her rural Sprucevale Road home, the bottom of Guilford Lake in Hanover Township, and the waters of a vast swamp in Wayne County.
No clues were announced as a result of those efforts.
At the time of her disappearance, Hill was estranged from her husband, Clifford Hill, and lived with his 12-year-old daughter, Tara, in a house trailer.
Hill was released from prison earlier this year after serving a 10-month prison sentence for theft and for the unauthorized use of a vehicle belonging to Tracy's mother but used by Tracy before her disappearance.
Tracy's mother, Zoanne Evans of Holmesville in Holmes County, had not given Hill permission to use the vehicle.
Hill was arrested in the vehicle at Guilford Lake several days after Tracy vanished.
