COITSVILLE -- Police say Garnett Moore of West Drive, Lowellville, was arrested at 5 p.m. Wednesday on allegations that he ignored Coitsville patrolman Rick Jamrozik's order to stop on McCartney Road while vehicles left a service at Victory Assembly Church. Police said Moore's car struck Jamrozik's right hand as the officer lunged out of its path when it crossed the center line traveling westbound.
Another Coitsville officer pursued and pulled Moore over on U.S. Route 422, just west of South Hubbard Road. Moore, no age given, faces charges of aggravated assault, DUI, failure to comply with a police order, reckless operation and no seat belt. Jamrozik was treated for his injury.
Police said Moore's blood-alcohol content registered 0.125; the legal limit is 0.08. Moore was due in Campbell Municipal Court today for arraignment.
Burglaries at homes
YOUNGSTOWN -- Burglars stole valuables from two South Side homes Thursday, police said. A woman who lives in the 3900 block of Erie Street told police she returned home about 11 p.m. to find the rear door open. Missing was a TV, DVD player, DVDs, assorted clothing, cordless telephone, perfume and a purse. Police found pry marks near the rear door. In the 100 block of East Florida Avenue, a woman returned home around 4:45 a.m. to find the front door kicked in and a computer worth $700 missing. She told police that other valuables and Christmas presents were untouched.
Man arrested after crash
POLAND -- Township police arrested Michael G. Morse, 45, of East Lucius Avenue, Youngstown, after he was involved in a head-on collision on U.S. route 224 near Poland Center Drive at about 5:41 p.m. Wednesday, police said today.
The nature of injuries and the name of the 23-year-old Pennsylvania woman who drove the other car were unavailable this morning.
Morse was taken to the St. Elizabeth Community Care Center in Boardman for leg injuries.
Morse faces charges of driving under the influence and driving under suspension and was cited for driving left of center. He was also wanted on a Mahoning County Sheriff's Department warrant for failing to appear in court on an earlier driving under suspension charge.
Accident at plant
McDONALD -- A worker at McDonald Steel was taken to the hospital after he was pinned between a table and a piece of steel.
Police said the legs and hip area of the man, who was in his 60s, were pinned for about 15 minutes at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday. The man, whose identity was not released, was conscious throughout the ordeal. Paramedics took him to St. Elizabeth Health Center for treatment, but no information was available on his condition today.
Company officials were not immediately available to comment.
Man remains missing
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- There were no plans to resume the search today for a missing Lawrence County hunter, said county 911 officials. David Woods, 52, of New Castle disappeared Monday night after falling out of a canoe on the Shenango River. He was hunting raccoons with his son-in-law.
Police searched for Woods through Wednesday by foot and with a diver. A canine-aided emergency search and rescue group also was brought in.
Museum, shop closed
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City Historical Society's museum and gift shop on College Avenue is closed for January and February for renovations.

New Year's Eve party
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Indoor swimming, basketball, volleyball, badminton, pingpong, door prizes and contests will be part of a public New Year's Eve party at Slippery Rock University.
The party will be from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. in the Robert N. Aebersold Student Recreation Center.
The family event is limited to the first 200 people to register. Reservations and payment are due by Tuesday. Tickets can be bought at the recreation center office. The cost is $3 for members and $5 for nonmembers. Snacks and refreshments will be served. A parent or guardian must accompany anyone younger than 16. Youth groups may attend with a chaperone ratio of one adult per five youths. Tickets will not be available at the door.
